The Coonabarabran Guides kicked off Australia Day with the annual Australia Day Breakfast.
We had a great morning
Mr Fred Watson, Astronomer-in-Charge of the Anglo-Australian Observatory (AAO) at Siding Spring, was the official guest speaker at the Coonabarabran Guides Australia Day Breakfast and as always entertained the crowd with amazing pieces of information... and we discovered that the telescope will have it's 400th birthday this year (officially in September) Fred always manages to bring the human side of the story into science.
Yes Fred wore a tie which was apparently a gift (a rather appropriate one for Fred as he is the Astronomer-in-Charge of the Anglo-Australian Observatory (AAO) at Siding Spring. ) This tie depicts the phases of the moon which was part of his talk at the Coonabarabran Guide Australia Day Breakfast.
Gemma Evans was delighted at the announcement that she was receiving the award for Coonabarabran Waratah Unit Guide of the Year for 2007. This was presented to her by Mr Fred Watson.
Later Gemma Evans read the Australia Day Message from State Commissioner, Mrs Prue Carpenter, to the crowd at the 2008 Coonabarabran Guide Australia Day Breakfast.
Official proceedings were followed by a delicious Breakfast.
Coonabarabran Australia Day Celebrations -
Waratah Guides were the official Colour Party to raise the flag at the official Australia Day ceremonies at Neilson Park, Coonabarabran. Colour Party included Ellie Capewell, Hollie Verender and Brown Owl.

It was so fun, and the breakfast was delicious we had sausages, eggs, toast, damper and for dessert we had a
lamington cake shaped as Australia. Fred Watson was a great speaker and it was very interesting to listen to him speak! (by Ellie Capewell)
